Newly made
Wooden statue of Guanyin, sitting on a dragon. Right arm leaning on uplifted right knee. Left hand supported on rock. Very fine details. Handmade, antiquated look. Guanyin is the bodhisattva (usually as a female) associated with compassion as venerated by East Asian Buddhists. The dragon is Suān Ní 狻猊, a creature that likes to sit down, and is represented upon the bases of Buddhist idols (under the Buddhas’ or Bodhisattvas’ feet). One of the nine sons of the Chinese dragon.
